OOTD | Miss Scarlet

Jumper MINKPINK / Shorts UNIF / Shoes (not pictured) Nike Air Propels

Hi lovelies! Erin and I had the most lovely public holiday this Wednesday. We happened upon a cafe that did the most delicious breakfast, and then headed back to her house for a photo taking session.

OOTD | Made For Walking

Vintage Floral Sundress - Can You Keep a Secret? / Embroidered Denim Button Up - Thrifted / Knee High Cowboy Boots - The Amazing Mill Markets, Daylesford / Sunglasses - Sportsgirl

For as long as I can remember pining for a pair of shoes, I have pined for cowboy boots. I have been waiting, with my eyes wides open, for the perfect pair to come along but because of my large feet it has been a long wait. Finally, while trying not to buy anything too outrageous at the Mill Markets in Daylesford over my summer break I stumbled across these beauties. They were part of a larger collection and, astonishingly, in my size. I know my men's shoe size almost better than I know my women's so I saw an 8 1/2 and crossed all my fingers as I slipped them on. At $60 for shoes in such good nick I couldn't possibly say no. These babies are steel capped and super sturdy and I cannot wait to kick around in them all winter long.

The rest of my outfit is nearing my last adieu to summer weather. I picked up this handmade retro bargain of a dress for $10 in my last Can You Keep a Secret haul and couldn't be happier seeing the season out in it. The super cute and comfy outfit needed some sun cover and a bit of extra warmth at night so I added a denim shirt of mine that doesn't get out much. I love the embroidery and the scalloping on the sleeves but it can sit awkwardly on some outfits. Fortunately, it suited this 1970s bohemian country attire well.

Hope you've all been having a grand long weekend.
Happy Easter!

Shopping | Vintage and Thrift Haul

I have managed to collect quite a number of new clothes in the last two weeks; more than usual for me anyway. Because I have a large haul of new (to me) clothes I thought I would share them with you. It started with a trip to my favourite, and semi-secret, op shopping location with of my favourite girls, Rhianna, where I picked up some incredibly 90s pieces. I think it was probably the influence of watching Clueless and Bring It On the week prior that brought out my inner Cher.

Firstly, I think I have developed a new love affair with wrap skirts. I picked up two of them in my op shopping trip and would never say no to a few more. One is super simple in plain black and reminds me of skirts worn by ballet dancers (which I always wanted to be growing up). The other is in a classic green-red tartan sporting a buckle at the side of the waist. I did have to adjust the button to make it fit my waist better but thats the joy of buying second hand. Of the three blouses I found on my journey I am only certain I will be able to wear one. The oversized lace button up is right up my regular alley whilst the bright blue knitted vest-top and pink-burgundy velour crop top/boob tube may only be worn once or twice.

The second half of my haul comes from Can You Keep a Secret? and once again they did not fail me. They were, and are still, having a half off all clothing sale until the Easter weekend. I took this opportunity to snap up a few groovy bargains with my fellow vintage clothing lover, Honor. I picked up the first two dresses for $10 each. Even though they are quite similar in their pastel floral patterns their cuts are strikingly different and appropriate for different occasions. I know the weather is starting to cool down and white cotton dresses can be hard to pair with tights but I couldn't resist. The bright collared top was down to $15 and an impulse purchase. It is a classic 80s square-cut button up and sits perfectly when tied at the waist. The print is fairly obscure but screamed "tropicana" at me so loud I had to have it. Again, it is fairly Summer-y but I can't be bothered with seasonal dressing in Brisbane; except of course to keep warm.

And thats my most recent thrift and vintage haul! I think all together I would have paid less that $70 for all of these clothes which is a great bargain (especially for some great condition vintage/retro classics). I like to keep my thrift haunt close to my heart but definitely recommend Can You Keep a Secret? to everyone looking for a vintage bargain: consistently great quality at a reasonable price.

Happy Wednesday!

Scent | Versace Pour Femme

I finally did it. I chose and purchased my first bottle of perfume. Up until now all the perfume in my life has been selected and bought for me by others and I was completely satisfied. However, my array of perfumes seems to be coming to a dry end with no refill in sight. For the last few months I have been trying to find a scent that I like enough to justify the investment in.

Welcome Versace's Pour Femme into my perfume family. I found this 30mL bottle in Priceline for around $40 and completely stoked. It is a very floral scent with base notes of patchouli, which I love. It reminds me of a spicy version of Marc Jacobs Daisy and after a few moment on the skin all you can smell is roses and blossoms.

I am head over heels in love with this perfume and will definitely be purchasing a 100mL bottle when this little sucker runs out. Do you know of any similar scents I might be interested in? I have such a hard time finding ones I like.

Happy Sunday!

OOTD | Pastel Bells and Cockle Shells

Pastel Shift Dress - Box Vintage / Cream Over-shirt - thrifted / Black Riding Boots - Greg Grant Saddlery

Another quick outfit post from me today, lovelies. I've really been working my way through my retro summer dresses recently. This is another oldie but a goodie and I thought it was about time it featured on the blog. As one of the first dresses I purchased from Box Vintage this definitely saw the beginning and blossoming of my love affair with vintage clothing.

If you look back to the last outfit I posted my obsession with miniature floral patterns will be blindingly evident. I love how petals work to fit in with each other and the complimentary colour selection in the fabric. I am also fairly partial to the cute button details on the shoulders.

The cream over-shirt is a staple also yet to feature on the blog. We know I love over-shirts and this was about $1 from a thrift-shop; paying more for some simple and easy to find basics is something I have trouble justifying.

Thats all for today, hope you're all having a good week!

OOTD | Sunflower Power

Dress Thrifted / Denim Vest DIY / Shoes UNIF 'Grim Creepers'

Hi lovelies! Sometimes the easiest way to get dressed is to stop thinking and throw on a dress. The summer heat still precludes me wearing any layers so I have taken to thrifting to find some comfy 'throw on' dresses.

OOTD | Festivals and Flowers

Crop Top by Nasty Gal x Lazy Oaf / Corduroy Circle Skirt by American Apparel / Shoe T.U.K. 'Mondo' Creepers

Hi lovelies! I am absolutely shattered after getting back from Woodford yesterday. As per usual the weather was boiling at the festival and this outfit ended up being what I wore on New Years Eve.

OOTD | Floral Specks

Polkadot Skater Skirt - River Island via ASOS / Floral Kimono - unknown boutique / Black Singlet - Target / White Socks - Target

Kimonos; you either love them or you hate them. I am definitely a lover of them and this is the first one I ever purchased. Just like over-shirts they are the perfect way to keep pale skin covered during the warmer months but don't cause you to overheat.

OOTD | Fancy Free Florals

Grey V-Neck - BONDS / Pastel Floral Maxi Skirt - Thrifted / Brown Leather Waist Belt - Thrifted / Crochet Sun Hat - Woolgoolga Markets / Sunglasses - Sportsgirl / Boots - R.M. Williams / White Socks - Target / Name Plate Necklace - Gift / Lips - Clinique Chubby Stick in Watermelon

As the days warm up and the sun beats down you're beginning to see a lot more of my favourite pieces. The paler and floral-er colours are my favourite to wear and it is this time of year that allows for such feminine looks. I took this weekend date with Jess to don one of my 'cuter' outfits for a little while so I thought I'd share it with you.

Friendly Fashion Features: Quirky Freedom with Ruby

pic name

Ruby 03

Ruby 02
Pineapple Shorts - Revival / Black Turtleneck Top - Paper Scissors

Ruby, meet blog readers. Blog readers, meet Ruby. Welcome to the fourth and final (for now) instalment of my Friendly Fashion Features series. From the moment I met this cool cat I knew that I wanted to get to know her and her full-of-life personality. When I initially asked her to participate in this shoot she was quite bashful and exclaimed that her style was 'so mainstream'. To me that seems crazy as I don't believe there to be a mainstream style in existence. We all dress ourselves in a way that expresses our feelings for ourselves and attitude towards the value of visual representation; some of us care more than others and that matters none.

Friendly Fashion Features - Pastels, Prints and Pretty Florals with Tara

Floral Playsuit - Dragonberry

Meet Tara, one of my best friends to be made outside of high school. We met on the first day of our first class at university and have been friends ever since. Since then I have watched her style grow to reflect her personality. When I asked her during this shoot, she said she likes to think her of style as a hazy "combination of pastel girly colours and slight punk influences." She has a real preference for clothes that are simple and hassle free. You'll notice the "easy to wear" quality that all of the garments featured offer - especially the playsuit and basic cotton tees.

OOTD Life's More Fun in a Maxi

Pink Floral Maxi Dress - Thrifted, Green Socks - ASOS, Boots, R. M. Williams, Sunglasses - Sportsgirl, Lips - Over by Illamasqua and Raspberry (02) Superbalm Moisturising Gloss by Clinique

Wow! Two OOTD posts in a row! It probably (definitely) has something to do with being back in Brisbane near my photography-loving-friend Tara (she took all these photos by the way). Today we took up a trip up to Mount Cootha, near her home, for some lovely scenic shots at the look-out and in the Botanic Gardens.
