OOTD | Spring Wallpapers

Dress - vintage via Can You Keep a Secret? / belt and bag - thrifted / The Jackson Sunglasses by *MKL Accessories - Karmaloop / Mary Jane shoe by Dr Martens - Downes Shoes, Fortitude Valley / Cutlery earrings - Covert Designs by Claire Woodfield

Another sunny day off out and about with Jess, and this time Honor (!), and another outfit that is anything but a work uniform. Jess was the one that found this dress hanging in a $20 rack at our favourite vintage haunt, Can You Keep a Secret?, and told me to hurry myself along to try it on. Obviously, I loved it and today was definitely not its first outing. What is there not to love? The fabric, the pockets, the way the stripes change direction, and the super-simple cut. This dress could not be more 'me'.

This is also the first outfit in which I've worn my Dr Marten Mary Jane sandals. They have taken me a while longer than predicted to wear in but I love them so much; and I'd want to as I wear them to work every day. These super comfortable shoes fit my orthotics (what of it?) but also maintain ultimate cuteness at the same time.

Accessories wise, I kept it fairly simple. The belt to maintain the bloused top of the dress, my black messenger bag to carry essential bits, the Covert earrings because I am obsessed and my *MKL sunglasses as a 'change' from my regular Sportsgirl staples.

Also, how great is big hair? I was feeling particularly Carrie Bradshaw (early seasons) this morning when I did my hair. I am really loving how much extra volume I can gain now my hair is growing out.

Hope you're having super awesome weeks!

OOTD | I-Died (When I found this Maxi)

Tie-Dye Print Maxi Dress - Vintage sourced via Box Vintage / Off-white blouse - Thrifted / Cherry Dr. Martens - secondhand via GumTree / Straw Sun Hat - Thrifted / Sunglasses - Sportsgirl / Lipstick Shade 106 - Lasting Finish by Kate for Rimmel

If you read Jess' post on Monday you'll be aware that we took advantage of a beautiful Sunday afternoon this week and got some outfit photos done in my new backyard. This weekend was also fairly warm and (I hope) signifies the end of a seemingly never-ending Winter. I took the chance to whip out this gorgeous tie-dye print maxi dress that I purchased the day before on a fairly regular whimsical journey around West End. Box Vintage is a Brisbane based (but also online) vintage store that I never enter unless I am ready to empty my wallet. I have never managed to leave without buying something and they're always beautiful staple or statement pieces in my wardrobe for years to come. This maxi dress is no different.

OOTD | Pottering

Potter's Field Check Shirt by Mink Pink - from Dissh / High Neck Burgandy Shift by Faithfull - from Dissh / Sunglasses - Sportsgirl / 8-Eye Boots - Dr. Martens

I have recently splurged quite a bit on clothes not found in op shops. Gasp! Shock! Horror! I found this super adorable daisy print flannel by Mink Pink and couldn't get it out of my mind. I scored it for super cheap as well when Dissh were having a 30% off all Mink Pink for a few days a while back. I paid $48 for this in a medium it so if you find it elsewhere for a higher price (like I've seen since purchasing it) don't pay and find a good price - it is only a flannel shirt after all.

Friendly Fashion Features: Quirky Freedom with Ruby

Pineapple Shorts - Revival / Black Turtleneck Top - Paper Scissors

Ruby, meet blog readers. Blog readers, meet Ruby. Welcome to the fourth and final (for now) instalment of my Friendly Fashion Features series. From the moment I met this cool cat I knew that I wanted to get to know her and her full-of-life personality. When I initially asked her to participate in this shoot she was quite bashful and exclaimed that her style was 'so mainstream'. To me that seems crazy as I don't believe there to be a mainstream style in existence. We all dress ourselves in a way that expresses our feelings for ourselves and attitude towards the value of visual representation; some of us care more than others and that matters none.

OOTD Uniform Via Thrift

Blouse - Thrifted, Tunic - Thrifted and altered, Dr. Marten 1490 Boots - Thrifted, Rings - (from left) Lovisa, Thrifted, Bingo Betty, and Etsy, Bangle - Market stall at Woodford Folk Festival, Lips - Illamasqua 'Spell' medium pencil and Clinique 'Super Moisturising Gloss'

This OOTD accidentally reminds me of Jess and mine's winter uniform. Navy blue tunic and a white button-up blouse (yes, I know this one is cream). And as much as I despised wearing that uniform, it creates something nice and nostalgic about this outfit. Virtually everything is thrifted, which you will learn is not unusual for me. The blouse I dug out for $2 at my favourite thrift store near my old home, and the tunic also thrifted (see Sunday's DIY post). My boots I think I've mentioned before; my Dr. Martens are one of my most treasured and well used possessions.

Here in Melbourne, the Summer can be unpredictable in its temperature variations. It can range from 12 to 40 degrees within two or three days. I wore this outfit on Saturday on a casual stroll down to the Camberwell shops and was pretty pleased with the fact I could wear boots and a long sleeve shirt in Summer.

It was also my first day experimenting with styling my new haircut. The first wash after the hairdresser styles it is always interesting. I purchased this snazzy new product called the Miracle Hair Treatment from ELEVEN and so far I've been pretty impressed. With a tousle through my hair and a thorough blow-dry with my hands the result was exactly as expected and desired. Super soft, lacking frizz, and that perfect 'rolled out of bed' look.

I've been accruing more and more rings of late. However, I have to wear sterling silver as my skin instantly turns green if it's cheap metal. My favourite is the tiny little crown ring on my ring finger (far right). Jess bought me this for my 20th birthday last year. The one next to it is a recent purchase from Bingo Betty just around the corner from my house. I love that it's a square shape. Second from the left, you'll see a ring I found hidden in my mum's collection - aching to see the light of day. The fourth ring was just a cheapie pick-up from Lovisa during its seemingly continuous 3-for-2 sale.

Have you been grabbed by the recent trendy addiction to rings? I struggle finding sterling silver ones with multiple sizes - any tips?
