OOTD | Comfort in Check

Lace Top - thrifted via Uniting Church Thrift Shop / highwaisted check shorts - thrifted via Salvation Army / tote - handmade via Uniting Church Thrift Shop / loafers - second hand via Shag Vintage / bent spoon pendant - Noosa Antique Upcycle Artisan / sunglasses - Sportsgirl

If you're not in Brisbane, or Australia for that matter, let me inform you that it has been sweltering hot these last few weeks. Jess and I are rather big fans of iced black coffee, not only to keep cool but it's a bonus, and I wore this on our last coffee date. I found these shorts a week ago and am so obsessed with them. They are ridiculously comfortable, light weight and the perfect size. For $2, I would buy a pair for every day of the week if they  existed. I am contemplating investing in the creation of one or more duplicates; but we shall see.

The rest of my oufit is just me attempting to stay as cool as possible. I love how this lace top lets the air through but isn't see-through and doesn't show too much skin. I found both the top and the tote bag in the same thrift shop many years ago and it remains my favourite store to this day; the location a secret to most of my op shopping friends.

I hope you're all keeping cool and staying out of the sun.

Happy Sunday!

OOTD | Double Tartan

Lace Shirt Motel Rocks / Vest UNIF via Urban Outfitters / Skirt Vintage via 9CrowStreet / Belt American Apparel / Shoes UNIF

Hi lovelies! So I have been swamped this week with assignments. It is a particularly busy time at uni at the moment. To be honest my daily wear has either been pyjamas in front of my computer or jeans and a shirt to go into the library at uni.

OOTD | Ripped at the Knees

Crop Top NastyGal / Necklaces eBay / Jeans Urban Outfitters / Shoes Nike Air Propels

Hi lovelies! I've been loving dressing comfortably of late. The weather still isn't particularly cold during the day, so velvet has been doing a nice job of keeping me warm but not too warm. This crop top has a matching midi pencil skirt, and whilst I love a matching two piece, it felt a bit much for a casual afternoon. I'm looking forward to wearing the pair together on a night out glammed up with some heels.

OOTD | Feed Me Diamonds

High Waisted Burgundy Short - Lollipop via Princess Polly / Lace T-Shirt - Thrifted / Glitter Cat Eye Sunglasses - ASOS / Stereo Sandals in white - London Rebel

I love how simple touches can make a super simple t-shirt and shorts outfit dressy enough for a night out. Layering my lace top over a dark crop-top or bra can instantly make it look like I put more effort in than I really did. The sheen of the fabric and cut of the shorts also adds a little bit of flair that really makes this outfit. I've been wearing this and variations upon it out a bit recently and thought I'd get some photos of it during the day.

I used to layer the lace top on top of a singlet and as the temperature has been increasing the desire to do so has massively decreased. I think that with semi see-through garments such as this dark lacy bras and crop tops can be super cute and not revealing at all.

The sunglasses are a recent spontaneous purchase from ASOS and I am currently sharing them with my gal pal Tara. They are much more her style than they are mine but I have difficultly resisting sparkles and cat-eye lenses.

There is also evidence of what happens to white shoes when they are much loved. They do not stay white for long but I've currently got my eyes out for other shoes in this style. However, I'm sure that by the time I do something else will be around and catching my eye.

Hope you've all had a smashing weekend!

OOTD | The Big Picture

.Com Beanie by UNIF / Kimono Thrifted / 'Teenage Dirtbag' Tank by MINKPINK / 'Private Dancer' Shorts by MINKPINK / Jeffrey Campbell Meyer Light Up Sneakers

Hi lovelies! My love for beanies extends into the summer apparently. This one is by UNIF (preditably) and it was on clearance on Urban Outfitters back in September. The weather has been pretty typical for a Brisbane summer lately with gorgeous sunny days and then pouring rain come 5 o'clock. So wearing a beanie isn't that ridiculous... at least that's what I'm telling myself.

OOTD | Teenage Dirtbag

Jacket UNIF Boneyard Moto / Shirt MINKPINK Teenage DIrtbag Tank / Belt American Apparel / Shorts American Apparel / Shoes UNIF Grail Platforms
Hi lovelies! This outfit is a big mish mash of my favourite brands. I took advantage of the last cool days to wear my banging new jacket from UNIF out during the daytime. I had been eyeing it since it's release and enabled by a recent DollsKill sale it was finally mine.

Similarly the MinkPink shirt was purchased on the cheap from Dissh. I buy the vast majority of my clothing online due to a lack of stockists and it being much much cheaper. However the Dissh sale section has some really quality pieces in it lately. I find sale hunting online much easier than in person so that's where the majority of my bargains tend to come from.

I think the Wheatus song is a secret pleasure of everyone around my age and I challenge you to sit through the entire video without at least miming the lyrics. Sadly for my family I have no qualms with belting out the entire song ...oops.

The belt and shorts are making yet another appearance. Is it clear that these are my favourite shorts ever? I am contemplating a purchase of the Sunflower print version for summer. Or perhaps I shall be sensible and purchase them in a darker wash? We shall see.

I recently posted a review on the UNIF Grail Platforms (handy link here), but since then I have had more of an opportunity to put them through their paces. I have come to the conclusion that they are ridiculously comfortable and they are perfect for stomping about in all night.

As I mentioned in my previous post my hair is now pink. I feel like I have been keeping you all in suspense over it, but I promise there will be a post up on Friday so make sure to check back then.

In a bit of shameless self-promotion Erin and I have also started up a FaceBook page for the blog. If you want to keep updated on our latest blogposts and the like the head on over here and like away

What are your favourite guilty pleasure songs? Is there a song you can't resist belting out? For any fellow 90s girls I am sorry for stealing a large portion of your time, click if you dare.

OOTD - Lace and Corduroy

Top Thifted / Skirt American Apparel / Jacket Levi / Belt Thrifted / Socks Asos / Shoes UNIF Grim Creepers

In order to celebrate the official change from Summer into Autumn I decided to wear not one, but two colours. Shock horror. I am guilty of wearing a lot of black. It matches with everything and looks polished. Sometimes though I get an itch to wear colour and using dark and muted colours is what works best for me.

OOTD - Pretty in Pink and Shoulder Pads

Blouse - Thrifted, Skirt - Barkins, Shoes - Christian di Riccio, Nail Polish - Sportsgirl Nailit "Tomato"

There is something strangely enticing about a super femme looking shirt that decides to throw in a surprise pair of shoulder pads. I'm not keen on it everyday but on the days that I feel like my knocked-about boots are too much but I need something to tone down the girly-ness - I love shoulder pads. I found this top in Lifeline during a sneaky shop before last years Laneway Festival with Jess and our delightful friend Honor (who then purchased this top for me as a gift, bless her soul). I've never been quite sure what it was about the top that I had to have. I adore lace, intricate prints that aren't floral, and buttons make me gaga. Most other thrifted garments that come with shoulder pads I remove before I wear but this piece just wouldn't be the same. Not only does it tuck nicely into high-waisted skirts but it also falls really pleasantly over pants and fitted garments. The buttons are also a huge draw for me. The top one was missing when I got it so I dug into my huge thrifted button collection and thought the one you see at the top fitted the aesthetic nicely.

Also in this OOTD I'm wear two of my all time favourite items. A) the hot pink skirt and B) my flatform sandals. For the last five years I worked at Barkins (an Australian retailer of fashionable women's corporate wear) and have to say it is definitely not my style. But every  now and again some garments would come in out of the blue that I just had to have - and it was conveniently cheap compared to other stores (plus a generous staff discount). This skirt was one of those items. It came in black and hot pink and I had to have both in my hands. I have plans to take them to a tailor and have it remade in every colour on the spectrum, I love it that much.

The shoes are Christian di Riccio which I purchased from ZOMP in Brisbane partway through last year. I had been searching for a plain yet attractive pair of flatforms (and obviously well made) for quite sometime and hence I was willing to fork out the $140 that I did. They've been worn full-time almost all of Spring and Summer and I hope so much that they last me another few seasons because replacing them will be next to impossible.
