Buy Nothing New Month | The Pledge Begins

This is a bit of a different blog post today; no review, outfit or recipe. Jess and I are about to embark on a month long journey which involves buying nothing new and will be blogging all the way. Buy Nothing New Month isn't to support a specific charity and doesn't involve getting sponsored to do it. It is a month to promote thinking about where what you buy comes from, how much you need it and alternative ways to attain it. It doesn't mean buy absolutely nothing either. You're still free to buy essentials like food and drink, and hygiene products and medication. You're also encouraged to purchase thing second hand (yay, thrifting!), beg, borrow and swap with friends and family to attain things you want and need.

"Buy Nothing New Month is the global movement for collective, conscientious consumption" - Buy Nothing New Month

If you've been reading our blog over the last year (almost a year, wow) you may be aware that Jess and I love to thrift here and there but also have a habit of buying new things all the time that we don't 'need'; we blame it on the blogging. As much as we are excessive consumers we like to think that we also consume with a conscious and this is a month where we can test ourselves and learn a lot.

We're both avid thrift shoppers and will have no problem with finding bits and bobs that way as well as via vintage resellers. I think the major problem for both of us will be in the makeup realm. It is not unusual for Jess and I to do quite a bit of damage in Priceline most weeks and our constant discussions of what products we are loving often is the reason for these.

PLEDGE HERE!
I am hoping that this month results in the saving of some of our wages too. We both have our own saving goals and I know that mine is often hindered by wanting to try too many new products at once. I hope that by forcing myself to think about my purchases a lot more that I create new habits in the future and am a more conscientious consumer and informative blogger.

If you feel like joining Jess and I on our avid adventure it is super simple and easy to sign up (pledge here). It costs nothing and will probably save you money in the long run. We will be blogging our journey all through October and would love to have some company along the way.

The Buy Nothing New Month website also has heaps of tips and tricks should you want to pledge but are unsure of how you'll make it through. Charity and vintage stores across the country as well as different bloggers takes on how to be more conscious of your consumption.

Thats all for today and I'll talk to you all again on Wednesday after October has well and truly begun.

Erin xx
