Review | Chanel Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eyeshadow

Sometimes it may appear that we have similar tastes but generally Jess and I have radically different styles (probably obvious). However, one thing we both generally tend to gravitate towards and enjoy experimenting with is eye makeup. Jess can produce some amazing things with a handful of brushes, a few eye shadow palettes and a wee bit of a time. I too love a dramatic eye but when the colour combination in a palette makes it incredibly easy to achieve an effective look quickly, I'm keen as mustard. Jess and I have recently had the pleasure of experimenting with the Chanel Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eyeshadow in Fascination (41)* and thought you'd like know how we went.

As evident in the swatches Fascination is a palette containing mostly blue hues. As evident on my face, my eyes are also a fairly blue hue. I won't lie and say I created the look on my eyes alone but I did assist. Jess came over, found me in a fluster about how to deal with the blue-on-blue situation and created what I think is a really lovely smokey eye on me. We stayed clear of the lightest/brightest blue in the palette but didn't go too dark either.

I feel that utilising the greyer tones on my lids and the darker navy in a wing and lining my bottom lash line avoided too much of a clash between makeup and eye pigment. Also, because of my yellowy skin-tone, navy can be quite complimentary, more-so than black, when winged out in a smokey eye. Combined with a thin line of my usual black liquid liner and light coat of mascara I feel like the intensity of the wing is played down by the lack of much else happening on my face. Although, I did put on a really light coat of Rimmel's Apocolips Lip Lacquer in the shade Galaxy as there were some really bright pinks and fuchsias on my jumper that day.

I've used the white and grey shade on the inner corner of my eyes since and been really impressed with how it blends with my more often used cream eye shadows.

I've only used one 'high end' eye shadow product before (a Dior palette thanks to Jess) and have to say that they really are worth their heftier price tag. Thoroughly enjoyed (enjoying).

Now I am a big fan of a smokey eye, however I tend to stick to neutral shades. The blues in the Chanel palette were a nice change and still wearable for day to day. The look I did above used a mixture of all the shades and black eyeliner to produce a very dramatic eye. However I have been using the darkest navy as a eyeliner lately and it's been working really nicely. It's a subtle change from my usual black but I like it.

With any bold look I think it's important to keep the rest of the face simple. I threw on a bit on bronzer and blush to stop me from looking too washed out and left my lips bare. The only thing I would advise is never forget to fill in your brows when you're doing a smokey eye. Looking back on highschool photos you would be forgiven for thinking I had no eyebrows.

If anyone's looking for a splurge, or a great palette for nights out then I'd highly recommend looking into the Chanel range. They're pigmented, blendable and come in perfectly paired quads.

I think I can comfortably say that both Jess and I will be loving these Chanel Quads for a while to come. The quality of the product is great and there so many other shade combinations on offer that I'd love to try as well. Two big thumbs up from Jess and Erin.

Hope you've all had a great weekend,
Erin and Jess xx
