Top American Apparel / Jeans BDG via Urban Outfitters / Shoes Jeffrey Campbell Coltranes / Lips So Chaud by Mac
After a brief flirtation with colour in my last outfit post (link here) I am firmly back in the realms of monochrome. The only colour is the burgundy of my belt, well and the lipstick, and I couldn't be happier. I did feel an urge to match my lips to my belt but felt that may be taking colour coordination to the extreme.
This was my uni outfit for the day. I like this outfit because it's so simple. It's easy to get caught up in having to make an outfit complicated or unique or a statement and lose sight of the fact that at the end of the day they are just clothes. Part of that is just wanting to settle in our style and I will always be an avid advocate for a statement shoe, but it is nice to go back to basics.
The tee was a steal in an Asos sale. It's technically a men's shirt, but I always think they're the comfiest t-shirts anyways. Black, high waisted jeans are a staple in my wardrobe. For about two years I religiously wore my Dr Denim's, but I got so disappointed by how quickly they faded and I was reluctant to shell out $130 for another pair. Enter BDG. These were on sale on the Urban Outfitters website for $40 when I bought them, but I think regular price is around the $60 making them a good bit cheaper than Cheap Monday. It was a bit of risk buying fitted jeans without trying them on, but I ended up purchasing the same size I own in Dr Denims and they fit perfectly. It is worth noting though that these are a thinner, stretchier denim than my old pair however.
The shoes are by Jeffrey Campbell (of course) and are what started this monochromatic obsession. Our first ever blogpost was on this pair of shoes (link here) so you can see for me it always comes back to Jeffrey. Just to give you an update on that review, I was right to be concerned about the foam-like sole. After numerous wears there isn't much grip left on these babies. I had to concentrate rather hard when walking though the rain. I am contemplating a re-sole, however for a pair of shoes that retail for as much as the Coltranes I would have much preferred a rubber sole, even if it did make the shoe heavier.
Hope you enjoyed my back-to-basics outfit
See you Monday
Jess xx
